Focused Girls Moral Regeneration Support Initiative releases the third edition of Wise & Witty Adolescent Book in honour of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his contributions to the development of Lagos State, Nigeria, specifically the Educational Sector which he turned around completely to the benefit of mankind through an unprecedented feat of establishing Six Education Districts in August 2005 & by appointing Principals & Directors of Education as Tutor general/Permanent Secretaries, among other numerous achievements, as Governor of Lagos State (1999- 2007).
The Author of the book, Ajoke Gbeleyi (Nee Erogbogbo) who retired successfully as the Director/H.O.D Private Education (LS Ministry of Education) in February, 2018, was one of the key management staff who witnessed the positive development in August 2005 at the inception of the Education Districts through a decade. Asiwaju’s laudable initiatives turned out to be a sort of emancipation for all Teachers, School Administrators, & Educationists, who have been reaching the peak of their careers as permanent secretaries.
The attendant benefits of decentralization and proper management of the Districts recorded huge success in learning outcomes in Secondary Schools because of the healthy competition among Districts with their budgetary provision being managed by the Tutor General Perm secretaries (Majority of whom were former School Principals).
This was heightened by the Administration of Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), with the introduction of Lagos Eko Project, by Madame Ronke Azeez, who as SA to the Governor on Eko Project, implemented the World Bank project successfully for about five years (2010- 2015) with lasting legacies, evident in the outlook and outstanding performance of Lagos State Secondary Schools, till date.
The benefits of the decentralization and management of over 750 secondary Schools in Lagos State since year 2005 deserves commendation by all & sundry & what an appropriate time to do so, as we honour the tenacious & quintessential leader behind such a feat entrenched among the largest work force in the Country, where millions of future leaders pass through, well equipped, to fulfill destinies. The Education Industry has never been the same since the establishment of the Districts & it is appropriate for those of us who truly care about the Education Industry to keep yearning for improved welfare of Teachers, across Nigeria
The establishment of Districts should be replicated across other States, going by the success story in Lagos State, the Centre of Excellence.
