The Rotary Club of Akowonjo will install its 37th President, Rotarian Olawale Ajenifuja and the Board of Directors of the club on Saturday September 3, 2022 at the Oranmiyan Hall of the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja Lagos. This was disclosed in a press release by the Investiture Chairman Rotarian Dr. Olasunkanmi Amoye who noted that the investiture is an annual ritual of the club geared towards raising funds for various projects for each Rotary year.
On his part, the new President of Rotary Club of Akowonjo, Rotarian Olawale Ajenifuja has promised continued community development projects support in the club’s catchment Alimosho/Akowonjo communities as the new Rotary year begins in the month of July for the Rotary Year 2022/2023 christened Imagine Rotary.
Speaking at the Presidential Handover Ceremony and Awards Night which took place recently at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja and venue of the club’s weekly fellowship amidst pomp and pageantry witnessed by Rotary dignitaries from the Rotary International District 9110, Rotarians from other clubs, guests and friends; the new president, Rotarian Olawale Ajenifuja stated that in continuing the good work past presidents of the club have done for over thirty six years especially his immediate predecessor, Rotarian Victor Amaraegbu, he will make the club proud by ensuring that all the areas of focus of Rotary are adequately covered with quality projects and programmes within the Rotary year.
In his acceptance speech as the new president of the club, Rotarian Ajenifuja said “becoming a Rotarian president was a dream come through for me, therefore with the support of my board of directors and the entire club members, I will make the club proud”. The president welcomed everybody present to the new Rotary year which will “engender great hope and fulfillment of the Rotary of our dreams”.
According to him, “projects that will be executed by the club will be in line with Rotary’s seven areas of focus which are Basic Education and Literacy, Maternity and Child Health, Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Community and Economic Development and Supporting The Environment”.
As the president puts it, “projects will be spread across the entire Alimosho/Akowonjo catchment communities of Rotary Club of Akowonjo on a needs assessment basis”. He stressed that in the past, the club had renovated school classrooms and toilets, sunk boreholes in communities, gave soft revolving loans to traders, provided adult basic education, sponsored indigent students, created employment opportunities and planted trees to enhance the environment to mention but a few. He however, added that “the club’s tradition won’t be broken but instead enhanced so as to continue to make the club one to reckon with in the Rotary District 9110.
President Ajenifuja therefore, charged club members to pay their dues, urging members of the public, lovers of Rotary and humanity to give massively towards the cause of Rotary as the year promises to be very exciting with Rotary activities including training and seminars dotting each month with their peculiar themes.
The highpoints of the handover ceremony was the presentation of awards by the immediate past president of the club, Rotarian Engr. Victor Amaraegbu to his board of directors who worked assiduously with him to a very enviable close and supportive members of the public including the media.
Meanwhile, as part of the pre investiture event, the visit to the Rotary Club of Akowonjo by the first female District Governor in Rotary District 9110, Nigeria, Rotarian Omotunde “Ayaba” Lawson has been scheduled for Monday August 15, 2022.
