As September is the childhood cancer awareness month, CLWCF ends her month long activities with her annual Walkathon (sponsored walk). This is usually from LUTH to the National Stadium and back to LUTH. Participants are advised to start practicing early to reduce the stress on their knees and ankle those who had not walked in a while.
This year, CLWCF had one of her childhood cancer survivors who had osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone) as a 12 year old girl, now 22 year old. She had her leg amputated. She did the walk!! Sadly, she did not have anyone sponsor her walk!.
Despite the rains, we turned out for the Walkathon sharing fliers containing the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer as we walked. The Kings and Queens of Bariga were on hand to entertain the walkers and passerby midway at Ojuelegba. It was a sight to behold. Thank you all who braved the rains to do this for our children.
